This theme investigates how water has played a part in sculpting both the landscape and the culture of its people throughout the ages and the part it plays now. Taming and Training Floodwaters looks at how man has managed water in the landscape over the past 1000 years and what this has meant for flooding. Alien Invasion is about the work we are carrying out to remove himalayan balsam from the Bassenthwaite Lake catchment. Dubwath Silver Meadows is a new wetland nature reserve which has been created as part of our programme. This reserve has an multi-access footpath and a local group of volunteers who arrange regular events on the site. It also has it own website. Love Your Lakes aims to work with businesses to reduce the amount of phosphates coming into Derwentwater and bassenthwaite Lake. River Habitat Restoration and River Corridors for Wildlife both work to improve the catchments rivers for wildlife, to reduce sediment entering the lakes and to reduce the impact of flooding.
